A Brief History and A Few Fun Facts

Niépce’s associate, Louis Daguerre, developed a process called daguerreotype, which was the very first publicly available photography process. It required only a few minutes of camera exposure in order to produce clear and finely detailed results. Later on, William Henry Fox Talbot invented the paper-based calotype negative and salt print processes. They turned out to be a competition for the metal-based daguerreotype. Photography was made easier and more versatile with more innovations in the later years. With newer materials, camera exposure time got reduced from minutes to seconds and eventually to small fractions of a second. Towards the mid-20th century, it was made possible for amateurs to capture photographs in natural color and black-and-white.
